Bring your laptops and (if you're bold!) a website you've worked on recently. Julie Grundy is going to help teach us how to use a screen reader, and then we're going to have some fun trying to navigate a websites or apps some of us have recently built - without being able to look at what's happening on the page!
This session will help build empathy for blind and low-vision users. As web developers we care a lot about user experience, and accessibility - making sure the UX is good for a wide range of people with different abilities. Learning to use a screen reader will help you be able to more confidently make websites and apps that work well for people who don't just look at a web page, but listen to it.
The session will be interactive - we'd love you to try a screen reader out on one of your own projects, and hopefully we can all have a laugh and learn some new skills.
We'll wrap up by 7:30. If you want dinner or drinks afterwards Varsity is next door and a few of us might head there.
